Distinctive dormer windows in the roof of Culross Palace

Windows: Dunfermline Abbey

The third in my photo-series is this beautiful stained glass window by Douglas Strachan in the old nave of Dunfermline Abbey. It was commissioned in 1916 by the famous Dunfermline-born businessman Andrew Carnegie in memory of his parents, William Carnegie and Margaret Morrison. The image symbolises the dawn of a new age, and features a […]

Windows: Old Castle Lachlan

Something to brighten a rainy day… the view from a window in Old Castle Lachlan on Loch Fyne. This is the ancient stronghold of the Maclachlans of Strathlachlan, and it certainly has some stories to tell.  You can read more in this article on The Hazel Tree. Photo © Jo Woolf

Windows: Edinburgh Castle

It’s about time I started another photography theme, and the next one I’ve chosen is ‘Windows’. This one is in the Royal Apartments at Edinburgh Castle, in the tiny room where, on 19th June 1566, Mary Queen of Scots gave birth to her son, the future James VI and I. More about Edinburgh Castle at […]

Autumn in Glen Garry

Taken by Colin on 17th October on the road that leads west through Glen Garry to Kinloch Hourn.   He saw plenty of red deer and said that stags were roaring from the hills. Photo © Colin Woolf

Beeches in Sutherland’s Grove

Thank you to everyone who suggested that my next photo series should focus on autumn in Scotland.   A lovely idea!  This is my first choice, taken in Sutherland’s Grove in Argyll. Photo © Colin Woolf

Waves at Eoropie

Waves sweeping in from the Atlantic at Eoropie (Eòrapaidh) on the Isle of Lewis. This is the last in my photo-series on water.   Do you have any suggestions for my next theme?    Image © Jo Woolf

Jewels of the sea

The latest in my water-themed photo series – taken from the pier on the Isle of Lismore, as we waited for the ferry.   The light was being refracted into wonderful blues and greens, making the stones look like exotic jewels. Image © Jo Woolf

The glorious beach at Sanna in Ardnamurchan is the latest in my water-themed photo series.  A long drive, but well worth the effort! Image © Jo Woolf

Golden water

Now that summer has arrived in Scotland (a welcome surprise!) I’ve chosen another in my water-themed photo series, with a refreshingly cool feel:  sunlight dappling the rocks in a burn on the Isle of Lismore. Copyright © Jo Woolf
