Scottish islands: Harris

Time for another in my Scottish islands series, and this time I’m visiting Harris in the Western Isles.   Harris has a dazzling beach at Luskentyre, and on the day we visited there was a brisk wind which kept us moving in an effort to stay warm.   Just a few inches above the surface of the beach, grains of sand were being swept along by a mini-hurricane, forming banks of tiny sand dunes that were constantly flowing and shifting – fascinating to watch.

  1. and another place on my to do list…..nearly made it this year but, you know, things happen and everything changes.

  2. Beautiful place.

    • It certainly is. I remember Colin was trying to photograph a party of red throated divers in the sea there and it was so difficult because of the wind. But we had the beach to ourselves!
