Frozen falls

Frozen falls

Moving on from my first image of the River Machno in winter, this photo was taken just a few yards downstream, where the river tumbles over a stretch of rapids by the old woollen mill.   Early in January 2009 the weather had turned bitterly cold, and the water had created fantastic icicles and sculptures on the overhanging rocks.

  1. Gorgeous!

  2. This is a very interesting photo for me.
I like very much the contract between ice and running water.

    • Thank you, Cornel, I like that too. I wasn’t deliberately trying to do this – I rarely use Colin’s cameras, in fact. I think the 1/4 sec shutter speed must have been just perfect.

  3. ah, contrast, not contract. I apologize.

  4. That’s a wonderful shot!
