Fresh salmon

Colin has moved on from his pencil study of a leaping salmon, and has now produced this beautiful painting in watercolour.

He was so focused on getting the shape and texture just right that he very nearly forgot to paint the spots on its scales.  I thought this was just the kind of thing that I would like to do, and I did offer, but sadly I was turned down…

This painting is already spoken for, as is the pencil drawing that I featured a month or so ago.  A woodcock pin-feather painting is now on the easel.   If you’d like to watch Colin’s images in progress, check out the Latest Paintings section of his website, www.wildart.co.uk.

  1. What a truly astonishing amount of work. How does he have the patience for all those scales and bubbles? Let alone the talent! I loved the line drawing and now that really is a fantastic painting.

    • Thank you, Lorna. I was amazed by the scales, too! He always seems to strike a balance between suggesting the finest detail but not painting too much.

  2. Lovely! Such beautiful, careful work. The gentle treatment of the piece shows through.

  3. Stunning!!!
