Time for a little brain-teaser!
Just for a change, I thought I would include a light-hearted quiz to make The Hazel Tree a bit more interactive… and to see how much you’ve been paying attention (only joking!)
I can’t say this idea is totally original – one of my fellow WordPress bloggers, Bob Zeller who writes Texas Tweeties, had the idea of featuring a weekly bird identification quiz, and I think it’s brilliant. I’m borrowing your idea, Bob!
It doesn’t matter how much or how little you know… you can find the answers easily enough by browsing my site, anyway! And if you can’t, you can always look online.
I will reveal the answer on Tuesday 15th May. It’s all totally anonymous, but I’m afraid there are no prizes. Please let me know if you think it’s too hard, too easy, or just about right. If you like it, I might make this a regular feature!
So here is the first question for you. Yes, as you probably suspected, it relates to Scottish history.
In August 1745, more than a thousand Highlanders gathered at Glenfinnan on Loch Shiel to see their much-loved kinsman, Prince Charles Edward Stuart, raise his standard in defiance of George II of England.

I liked that – more please!
I might pinch that idea for my own blog.
Thank you, Lorna! I think it’s a fun idea, and I’m sure it would be great for your blog!
